Cast To The Sun

I am the type of person who will cry in a sappy movie, tear up or smile reading a great greeting card from someone and find motivation or directions with great quotes.

A play on words happened on one of our fishing trips this week inside my brain. You will soon see how my brain really works with words and where my real joy and motivation come from. It’s not me it’s God.

Kenny was catching bait so I answered his phone. I normally help, but he was spoiling us today. It was one of his fishing friends on the phone. He ends the conversation with put Debbie in the back of the boat, that’s where the fish are. Don’t let Kenny stay in the back of the boat he will end up catching all the fish.

We got to where we were going and started fishing. Kenny even baited our poles and threw them out for us. Debbie was sitting in the front of the boat, I was in the middle and yep -Kenny was in the back of the boat.

Presto – Kenny reels in the first catch. This start Debbie jokingly telling Kenny his friend was right about the back of the boat. Kenny told her to come to the back of the boat and it didn’t matter where she sat in the boat. She declined with the excuse she wouldn’t have anywhere to sit.

A little fun fact about Kenny, he doesn’t hold his pole when he fishes. He leaves them in the rode holders. When he sees the poles bend then game on. He does not sit and worry about every little nibble. He also casts out in random areas all around the boat.

The rode holders are like how God holds you. The rode holders hold the pole tight until you can get to the pole to reel in your fish. In times of trouble God has you – Isaiah 41:13 For I hold you by your right hand— I, the LORD your God. And I say to you, ‘Don’t be afraid. I am here to help you.” You have to allow Him in.

The poles in the back of the boat went off again. Kenny let me and Debbie reel them in, some fish were keepers, some not. Debbie continued to talk about how Kenny was always catching fish at the back of the boat and how it’s not fair that she was not catching fish on her pole. Kenny finally made her move to the back of the boat. He told us it does not matter where you stand in the boat, you just have to throw out far. Debbie brought up a past fishing tip that Kenny had told us, Wherever you are in the boat, cast to the sun.

With this move I am now in the front and Kenny is in the middle, and Debbie she made it to the back of the boat. You would know it, I started catching the fish in her spot. This was kind of comical and we all laughed. A little mumble from her, when like magic her pole started squealing and a little thank you Jesus moment.

During this fishing trip it was not about who caught the most, even though it always brings out friendly competition. This fishing trip was peaceful, quiet (no wind) great conversation about letting your pole sit and not worry about it and thanking God for a beautiful day, sunset and family to call my own. It was time spent with my dear sister-n-law who puts everyone’s feelings above her own. Who has a heart of gold and yes, worries about everyone else’s well being.

I began to think as I watched her stand there casting towards the sun. In this moment of her life She truly is casting to the SON.

Psalms 55:22 Give (Cast) your burdens to the LORD, and he will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall.

We all need to cast our thoughts, worries, goals, dreams, and fears to the Son, if we want to live in peace, joy, and love. Having faith that Jesus is our Lord and Savior, he died for our sins and rose again is your first step to living this life without worry.

Being a Christian does not mean life is all rainbows and lollipops. It also does not mean you will not have troubles or sorrow.

You know what? Worry will creep in you are human.

To STOP worry and anxiousness in its tracks when it does creep in you have to be able to speak out loud the word of God, your weapon, promises from the bible = scriptures. As my preacher Trey Dowdy said in church today, “Satan has taken over your channel. Change the channel…… Swing your sword.”

You know worry and anxiousness are what the devil wants you to do. God does not want this for you. Cast your worry and anxiousness to the LORD, And He shall sustain you; He shall never permit YOU to be moved. This is your scripture into your life, my God has me.

That boat is life. It doesn’t matter where you are in life, it matters where your heart and faith are with God.

You pray, ask for help, you give your burdens, cares, fears and worries to the Lord then what? You find out where you are in life or your boat. You may have to move to the back of the boat or He may want you right where you are, in the front. Keep casting to the SON with praise and thanksgiving he knows where you are going.

Find your quiet spot to build your relationship and faith with the Lord. God’s promises are written all throughout the bible. Reading, memorizing scriptures and then implementing them into your life.

When you put scriptures into your life this is how you call upon the Lord in times of trouble. John 16:33 “In the world you will have tribulation. But take courage; I have overcome the world!” John 16 is about Jesus telling his disciples of His upcoming death on the cross, He is returning to God, and God loves us because we love Jesus and believe in him.

Jesus’s death and resurrections allowed for Jesus to be with ALL of us when we ask, believe, and seek him. He is your strength, your comforter, you eternal rock. John 16: 7 “But I tell you I am going to do what is best for you. This is why I am going away. The Holy Spirit cannot come to help you until I leave. But after I am gone, I will send the Spirit to you.”

When you worry it takes away your peace, because your peace comes from the Holy Spirit living in you. You are not allowing God to guide your path. Worry is basically you telling God I don’t quite trust you 100% yet. I am still trying to control this part of my life.

This quote says it all – “Worry, like a rocking chair, will give you something to do, but it won’t get you anywhere.” Vance Harner.

When the worry or negative starts to creep in what is the verse that will help you STOP this thought? How will you change your channel? How will you cast to the SON?

These are some of my go to verses when my mind starts to drift:

  • Psalms 27:1 The LORD is my light and my salvation–whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life–whom shall I dread?
  • Psalm 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble.
  • Psalms 139:14 I praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Marvelous are Your works, and I know this very well.
  • Isaiah 53: 5  He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed
  • Phillipians 4:13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength
  • Psalms 29: 11 The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace.
  • 2 Corinithians 12:9-10 But he said to me, ” My grace is sufficient for you , for my power is made perfect in weakness.” ………For when I am weak then I am strong.
  • Jeremiah 29: 11 For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD.“They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
  • Colossians 3:17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
  • Romans 12:2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

40 years (I am 50, but did not give my life to God until I was 10) and I am still learning about who God wants me to be. My story has had ups and downs and is not finished. I fall, I say the wrong things, I worry what others think, and I remind myself I am not in control of other people’s lives.

God has me right where He needs me.

When you change places in the boat make sure your changing places with God’s help. Keep casting your cares upon the SON. He hears you.
