It’s the end of the year and the beginning of a new one. Everyone is starting make their resolutions. Are you one of the 38% (was 41% in 2018) who will make the resolution to lose weight and exercise?
Exercise is not all about weight loss and looking good. Your body needs to exercise or move more for your overall health. A primary cause of chronic disease is physical inactivity.(1)
Exercise has a lot to do with how you feel. It works with lower anxiety, stress. It increases your confidence, puts a pep in your step, makes you stronger and let’s not forget the glowing skin you will soon have. (2)
Another positive for exercise is preventing osteoporosis, keeping your joints and muscles healthy and able to daily functional movements throughout your life.
Exercise does not have to be an hour of cardio or strength training. It can be getting outdoors, simply taking a break from your task at hand and recharging your brain.
Spending 120 hours a week outside is equivalent to working out everyday mentally. Think of how kids look playing outside. Think of how you felt on your last vacation to a beautiful beach or wooded mountain area. You are probably smiling. Less stressed and anxious. (3)
Let’s talk mini facial. Every time you exercise you break out into a good sweat, so this dilates your pores. This helps purge the dirt and oils. (2)
Exercise improves your immunity. It jumps starts your body into increasing white blood cells. This works in your advantage by preventing the bacteria and viruses from sneaking in. Plus all the lymph nodes are working overtime and taking out the damaged cells. (2)
We can not forget the cortisol. Our fight and flight hormone. Exercise sharpens the body’s sensitivity to this hormone. When your cortisol is balanced, your sleep is improved. When you are sleeping your body is repairing itself. (4)
Exercise is one thing you can do at your own pace. You start where you are. It controls more than your weight and the idea of getting to be a certain size, it controls your overall mental and physical well-being.
Are you afraid to start? Do you have no idea where to start? Start simple. It may be standing up and sitting down out of your favorite chair in front of the TV. It may be parking a little farther from the stores you shop from. It may be getting outdoors to watch the sun rise and set as you walk your dog. Taking that breath of fresh air and deep breathing for a few minutes.
It’s all about where you are in life and where you want to be.
