This chocolate pie is rich and very chocolate e.   Mom usually makes this for her grand-kids during the holidays.  To keep your pie crust from becoming soggy I have started blind baking my crust.  I found how to prevent soggy pie crusts on Pinterest. Great article on several ways to help with making the perfect pie crust.

Preheat oven to 325 degrees


1 baked 9 inch pie shell

1 ¾ cup of sugar

2 eggs, separated

5 heaping TBS of flour or 3 TBS of cornstarch

4 level TBS of cocoa

2 cups milk

1 tsp vanilla

Sift dry ingredients into sauce pan. Mix thoroughly.

Add egg yolks to milk. Mix well.

Slowly add to dry ingredients until well blended.

Cook over very low heat until thickened and of pie consistency.

Pour into a cooked baked pie shell.


2 egg whits

1 tsp vanilla

2 heaping TBS of sugar

1 tsp cream of tartar

Add vanilla to egg whites. Beat until soft peaks form.

Gradually add sugar and cream of tartar.

Continue to beat until egg whiles are stiff.

Top pie filling with meringue.  Make sure whites touch all the edges of the pie.

Bake at 325 until slightly browned.

Cool on cooling rack.  Refrigerate left overs.
